Dr Boston graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada in 1996. She completed a rotating internship at the University of Guelph the following year. She then returned to Western Canada for 3 years of general practice before going to the University of Guelph for a residency and DVSc in small animal surgery. She became board-certified with the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2004. Sarah then completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Surgical Oncology at Colorado State University in 2005. Sarah was on faculty at the University of Guelph for 5 years and at the University of Florida for 5 years. She was a tenured Associate Professor at both universities. She is currently a surgical oncologist in private practice with VCA Canada in the Toronto area. She is an ACVS Founding Fellow of both Surgical Oncology and Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. 

She is the Past-President of Veterinary Society of Surgical Oncology and Chair of the VSSO Scientific meeting. She has authored numerous journal articles in textbook chapters on surgical oncology, some of them good. 

Sarah is also a bestselling author and cancer survivor. Her first book Lucky Dog: How Being a Veterinarian Saved my Life, was published by the House of Anansi Press in 2014. She is the founder of The Cageliner, a satirical newspaper for the veterinary profession. Her current hobbies are stand up comedy and comedy writing.
